The Somatic Movement Educator (SME) programme runs over 2 years. See Courses for a breakdown of the units.
It is possible to take the courses in any order and to start at any point in the cycle. You can take the courses that interest you or the whole program. If you complete all the courses and the homework assignments and sessions you will get the SME certificate.
Through the study of individual body systems and the developmental movement process, participants learn the fundamental layering and interweaving of principles that establish the richness of embodiment practices; we touch and are touched in partnering hands-on techniques; we use sound, vibration, verbal dialogue and more to access the body's wisdom.
The SME material has immediate applications to movement based disciplines - such as dance, yoga, sports, martial arts - as well as to educational contexts including special educational needs settings, and to other therapeutic modalities such as physiotherapy, occupational therapy, psychotherapy, bodywork and massage. This 500+ hour program requires two years of study. Graduates are qualified to use the work in remedial, educational and movement re-patterning contexts.
Please see the section on EMA and "Other Schools" for links to the professional accreditation association, ISMETA and the BMC Association to find out more about the professional application of BMC and their registration details.
