Moving Encounters — a one-day experiential workshop for therapists and relational practitioners, taking place on Sunday 18th October in London.
The day offers a structured and contained space to explore embodied awareness, attention, and relational presence through movement-based inquiry. Drawing on principles from Body-Mind Centering®, Authentic Movement, and Contact Improvisation, the emphasis is on direct experience rather than technique, interpretation, or performance — staying close to what is actually happening in the body and in relation, moment by moment.
At times the work will be internally focused and quiet; at others, it will involve movement in relation to others. Clear frameworks support consent, choice, and pacing throughout, and participation is always invitational, with space to observe or pause at any time.
The workshop is open to therapists, counsellors, psychotherapists, and practitioners working in relational or embodied contexts, particularly those interested in how bodily experience can inform presence, attention, attunement, and relational responsiveness in their professional practice.
No previous movement or dance experience is required.
The day is facilitated by Mark Rietema, UKCP-registered Psychotherapist and Somatic Movement Therapist (BMCA), with a background spanning clinical practice, somatic education, and movement facilitation. Mark teaches Body-Mind Centering® within official BMC® trainings and Contact Improvisation nationally and internationally. His training in Process Work (Mindell) informs the way the group field and emerging process are held throughout the day.
Mark will be supported by Sole de la Hoz, a Contact Improvisation teacher and trainee psychotherapist in Process Oriented Psychology, with a professional background in dance.
